The Temple-Tifereth Israel, 26000 Shaker Blvd, Beachwood, OH 44122

A conscientious objector during the Korean War, Matt Herron was organizing peace demonstrations when the first sit-ins occurred in Tennessee and North Carolina. Shortly after being arrested for attempting to integrate an amusement park in 1963, he and his family moved to Jackson, Mississippi to join the Civil Rights Movement. In the summer of 1964, Herron organized a team of photographers to record the rapid social change taking place in Mississippi and other parts of the South. Join the This Light of Ours: Activist Photographers of the Civil Rights Movement curator as he shares his hopes, dreams and stories.
