Jazz, Civil Rights & Carl Stokes

January 22, 2017

6 pm

Rhema @ The Warehouse, 3400 St. Clair Ave (at E.34th St), Cleveland, OH 44114

Cleveland: here’s the first of many special events our “Spirit of the Groove” series is presenting as we begin to celebrate Carl Stokes throughout 2017. Cleveland jazz legends Kenny Davis and Ernie Krivda will share stories of our Cleveland music community particular to the 60’s and 70’s; gospel artist and community leader Rodney Hubbard will join as well. The event will begin with special guest and founder of The National Jazz Museum in Harlem, Loren Schoenberg – one of the most brilliant jazz historians of our time – who will talk about artists from Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, to Miles Davis and John Coltrane, and their place in the evolution of Civil Rights in America.

All are invited to attend. And for CLEVELAND ARTISTS (regardless of genre): we sincerely hope you can try to come through to hear stories of our hometown music history in the context of current events past and present as we move forward as artists in 2017!

Spirit of the Groove" is a Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland series created and co-hosted by jazz artist Dominick Farinacci & gospel artist Johnny Parker
